Global Perspectives 2011
Every year, a class of grade 12 students from Stelly's Secondary School travels to a third-world country for a humanitarian project. In 2011, we spent three weeks in Cusco, Peru, building a new pre-school from the ground up, and installing clean wood-burning stoves in community homes. We brought with us bags of second-hand coats to distribute throughout the community, and were able to visit a class of students learning in a school constructed by a previous group of Global Perspectives students.
This year-long course involved the planning and execution of a fundraising gala, complete with silent auction and entertainment, to raise $20,000 for building supplies. All personal expenses were paid for by the students.
Stelly's students continue to make a difference each year, most recently in Nepal and Fiji.
